Maundy Thursday midnight: Recumbent Jesus
The image of the Recumbent Jesus was discovered in the Church of the Conception, covered by a shroud, in an old, simple glass case in February, 1941 and, one month later the brotherhood was founded and they bore it in procession that same year. The sculpture, made by the school of Gregorio Fernández, is considered to be the work of one of his disciples, Francisco Fermín. The body is perfectly carved, the anatomy brilliantly observed by a master of wood and of the faith.
